Found this place on yelp and tried it today. I am impressed! I got the Supreme Club with no tomato and no lettuce. It has sundried tomato mayo on it and the flavor is delicious!! I will definitely be going back again. Favorite sandwich place in the area so far!!

Awesome deli!! My favorite sandwich is the spicy pastrami with jalapenos! I also get the potato salad which is pretty good! Food can take up to 5-10 minutes, but its worth the wait. I recommend phoning your order before picking it up or eating there. Good places sometimes have a bit of a wait.

I was in Seal Beach on my second 3-week business trip when I found this place. My first stretch here was filled with dozens of incredible dining experiences, and I never ate at the same place twice. This trip, on the other hand, was busier and generally saw me working until at least 8pm every day, 7 days a week. As such, I tried to avoid ever eating dinner, since eating that late isn't exactly conducive to weight management. At some point pretty early on, I found this little deli entirely by accident on a lunch break. I was immediately in love. Between the comfortable outdoor seating, the incredibly friendly owners, and absolutely delicious sandwiches, I had a new favorite lunch spot. I don't know how many times I came back during this trip, but it was a lot. Every time, the sandwich was fantastic. Tasty meats, fresh avocado, and seriously peerless bread. The owners knew me by name after my second visit, and even though our conversations were generally brief, I found myself missing it on the days I ate elsewhere. Since I was watching my food intake already, the portions were excellent for me (this is before the extra meat option was available). It was filling enough, and I wasn't losing my mind with hunger by the end of the day. It has been a few months now since I flew back to Orlando for the final time, but I still find myself honestly missing this place, its people, and its food. It was one of the few shining experiences of an otherwise brutal and oppressive business trip.

Decent sandwiches, small storefront but I work nearby so I took it to go. I got the Hero sandwich. They gave a decent amount of meat, the veggies were fresh, the fries were crisp. Good place to get a sandwich and a nice change to the regular subway/togos.

-The girl who answers the phone has no idea what shes talking about. - their website is bad...it claims free delivery over 50 dollars, but they actually wont deliver UNLESS you SPEND 50 dollars. - yes its a mom n pop shop but they need to at least be prof

I love delis especially ones own by Koreans. (This place is really a 3.5 stars but 3 stars just doesn't look appealing and I think if you are in the neighborhood and hungry. You should support mom & pop places. YELP, YOU SHOULD IMPLEMENT HALF STARS) Moving on, for some great reason the ingredients are usually higher quality. But I should first start off that I like delis that taste homemade no frou frou stuff so if you're looking for that you should completely pass this deli up. I went in there to order some stuff (5 sandwiches) for all of us but when I got there it felt really unorganized but I sucked it up for yelp. It took about 10 minutes during the lunch rush so please call in to order but next door there is an English Tea place that sells English candy and all you international fatties know that English/European chocolate is way better there than here even if it's a kit kat bar. Overall, just a really good and simple deli.

After working in the Katella/Valley View region for a year and a half, I've gotten to know most of the lunch options pretty intimately. There are a whole bunch of sandwich shops within a ten-minute drive, several of which are quite good. So when I say the Old Pumpernickel stands triumphant atop a hill of their bleached skulls, it's not as though they didn't put up a valiant fight. What makes the Old Pumpernickel stand out among the rest? Variety is key. You've got your standard sandwich fare, your ham, turkey, tuna salad, all of which I'm sure are perfectly decent. It's the signature sandwich list where you start to find the creativity. Basil turkey, balsamic portobello, chicken pesto. A chicken salad sandwich with almonds and cranberries thrown in (quite delicious). The "Taste of Asia", a riff on Vietnamese sandwiches spiced up with pickled carrot kimchi and onion jam. The "Awesome Bulgogi", a sandwich creation based on Korean barbecue. Most or all of these are available on the Pumpernickel's magical toasted French roll. There's a plentiful selection of Dirty-brand kettle chips for when you're willing to pretend potato chips are part of a balanced lunch. The staff is very friendly, especially the woman usually behind the counter (Cindy?) who gets to know her regulars by name and comes out to chat when she has a free moment. They have a cute, partially-shaded patio with lots of seating and far enough from the road not to be noisy, as well as a couple small tables indoors near the counter and a few more just inside the mall for when conditions outside aren't so conducive to sandwiching. Prices are good, around $5-6.50 per sandwich, with a daily $5.00 special. And if you still have room after your gourmet sandwich, they do some pretty sweet smoothies as well. Sadly, I'm moving back to the Bay Area in a couple of weeks, but the Old Pumpernickel reigns as my standard-bearer for what a sandwich joint should be.

We were starving after a $4 movie at the 4 Star Cinemas and wanted to pick up something that would appease the whole group (one picky woman, one picky 6 year old and 2 men that would eat whatever is in front of them). We came across the Old Pumpernickel Deli from Yelp because that is the ONLY way we determine where to eat. Immediately, we pulled a move like my bro-in-law and told the man behind the counter that "we don't see grilled cheese on the menu, but could you make it for us". Without hesitation, he said "of course". I had the Italian Sub (without ham...ham is not Italian) and it was amazing. The bread was perfection!!! The only thing that I would change is less mayo and a touch of mustard, but we will definitely be back.

Got a sandwich, chicken w/dried tomatoes. It was okay, just okay. the bread was good and toasted, the chicken had flavor to it. The sandwich tasted just plain, nothing noteworthy about it. I'll try it again another day. Maybe I missed what was so special about this place. I forgot, the place has kind of a musty smell to it. Try it again and see if it was just that day that was off or something...

Awesome sandwiches and awesome customer service. Cindy (the owner) is super friendly and will get to know your name if you frequent there enough. I've tried about 5-6 things off of their menu and I've enjoyed every one of them. Price is very reasonable as well (probably $5-$8 per item). I really enjoy their bread and quality of ingredients. I highly recommend you give it a try!

Love this place! I'm addicted to their Chicken Pesto. They do have a large variety for low prices. However, I have not been impressed with their teriyaki and salads. But I am pretty picky with my teriyaki so maybe it's just me? :P Another thing I gotta say is that you have to assume they put mayo on your sandwich even if it's not listed on the menu. So you have to make sure to say "no mayo" every time if that is what you desire. Other than that, I definitely recommend this place.

love, Love, LOVE this place. Found it by accident and soooo glad I did. I order from here at least once a week! It's a small family owned sandwich shop that makes THE best sandwiches. Portions are large, sandwiches are made to order, and the bread is always perfectly toasted!! YUM!!! Mostly a to-go type place, tables and chairs available outside for eating, not too much room for inside dining. My favorite sandwiches: Chicken pesto and Supreme club.

  • Gary C.

Wife and I stopped in on 2/4 to grab a sandwich and realized that we need to come by here more often. I had the Sundried Tomato and Chicken sandwich while my wife had the Chicken Pesto. Both sandwiches were made to order and were packed with flavor in fresh baked bread! We only wanted to eat half and saved the rest for later, but that was not going to happen. Also, they have fountain sodas in a styrofoam cup that keeps it nice and cold and brings back the childhood memories. We will be back again and again.

People really love this place. My friend brought me here because she claimed it was the best thing since...well...sliced bread! I read the great reviews and I decided to give it a try. Now, I want to clarify my review has little to do with the quality of the food and more to do with the silliness of the service. I'm your typical "picky eater". I'm allergic to one thing, plainly don't like another. My friend has a short lunch period, so we ordered way ahead of time for pickup (since she says the wait is quite long - no worries, this means it's fresh right?). So I order a sandwich on the menu that looked like I didn't have to say no this or that, since everything on the description were things I can eat. Well, surprise, SURPRISE! There was Mayonnaise in it. When I pointed out the fact that it's not included in their menu, the lady behind the counter gave me a look like I was crazy. And no joke, she said "well, yes. There's Mayonnaise. It's a sandwich." I had to laugh! What if I was vegan? What if I'm allergic?! Am I supposed to assume everything has mayo?! Upon mentioning we had no time for another sandwich I inquired about another, quicker sandwich with no mayo. Before she started to make it, I asked "wait....just to make sure....does this have cheese? Because that's not on your menu." She said it did. And gave me that look like I'm being an obnoxiously pretentious picky eater. I've been told by friends that I must be an alien for not liking cheese on my sandwiches, so I guess she was thinking the same thing. She got frustrated and I just ordered fries. I never came back, but my less picky friend still goes there and shared with me that recently, a guy ordered a sandwich and asked why there was no mustard in his pastrami sandwich, since there's mustard in the description. The lady looked perplexed and asked "oh...you wanted mustard???"; making him feel crazy. She could have just admitted she forgot, but instead made the guy feel like he imagined the menu saying mustard. I laughed and thought, ok, I MUST write a review about this. This reminds me of the "soup nazi" episode of Seinfeld. NO MUSTARD FOR YOU!!! Anyway, I didn't have a good experience here myself, which is why I'm giving a low rating. They get 2 stars since, I'm still told they have good food. Just wish they could be more clear about their menu and stop making people feel like super weirdos for ordering no mayo or something they forgot that's clearly on the menu.

This is a very good place for lunch. On my first visit I had the pesto chicken sandwhich and it is every bit as good as I hoped. I loved the bread and the roasted red bell peppers. This is very similar to how I make it for myself at home. A couple of months later I had the Italian sandwhich and again, I was very pleased with my choice. Some places skimp on the meats for an Italian sando but OPD does it just right. My only complaint is the seating. It isn't really their fault because it is the layout of the building. Give this place a try instead of the typical fast food chain. You will be pleased and you will be supporting a local small business!!!

I haven't been here in awhile and I was in the mood for a sandwich and decided to come here. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! Apparently the ownership has changed and so has the quality of food. They still have the same menu but things are definitely different despite the effort to stay the same. I got the asian sandwich which had the same ingredients as before but the bun was completely soggy and gross. I also ordered the portobello salad because I remember the dressing being homemade and amazing. Amazing it was NOT. They used regular italian, cheap lettuce (not mixed greens like before) and the portobello portions are smaller now as well. Probably won't be coming back...which is a bummer because their bread is amazing and they had innovative sandwiches compared to other delis.

Not exactly Kogi, but the Bulgogi Deluxe is pretty yum. Bulgogi cooked to order and then topped with mayo, jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions on a freshly baked French roll. The owners are Korean, but oddly, that is the only Korean-style sandwich on the menu. What a shame. Another odd thing is that there was no pumpernickel to be had here. I did see rye on the menu, which I guess is close enough. But then again, who wants old pumpernickel? That's like calling the place Stale Bread Deli!

Old Pump.. what can I say? It's pretty much hit and miss. I really love the bread and the fresh ingredients, and the unique yet delicious combos of said ingredients. However, sometimes they just fall a tad short of what's expected! My taste of Asia sandwich was anemic. I really wanted MORE of the chicken, kimchi, etc. Gourmet Veggi - Spot ON, crunchy flavorful, and filled to the brim w/ awesome veg. Today's Chicken Club - ONE piece of bacon. One. For an entire french roll. The chicken was great, and the mayo insanely yummy. Still, I can't get over one piece of bacon on a club. It's almost sacrilegious. Nah - scratch that - it IS sacrilegious. Please Old Pump! Consistency and more ingredients. Please!! I want to love you, but right now I just like you.

I've been here several times, and the food is almost always great. Couple things on the menu that aren't quite as great as others (salads and tuna are kind of "Eh"). Love the variety and the service is fast and friendly, even during lunch rush. Go for the asian chicken and bulgogi sandwiches.

I tried out this place with my boyfriend yesterday! It's a small sandwich shop, but it's very cute in it's own way. The owners are very friendly and they come to know you on a first name basis if you come often! I really wanted to try out the sandwiches on their menu because they looked delicious, but I opted for a burger instead because I was having a burger craving. I ordered the Avocado Bacon Burger meal (comes with fries + soda for an extra $1.99)! Unfortunately, they ran out of bacon that morning so they compensated my bacon for a berry smoothie. The smoothie was delicious too! Nonetheless, the burger still tasted great without the bacon. I also love the fries. They're not the typical plain fries you'd get because they're lightly seasoned which makes them even more tasty! Overall, I love the friendly service, and the different sandwich varieties they offer on their menu. There's a vegetarian section on the menu, as well as a low-carb section for people who are into healthy food!

We found this place on Yelp, and stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. The place was somewhat busy when we arrived and considered even leaving since there was no outside seating. We ended up staying and not regretting our decision. We met the owner and she was super nice and was quick to recommend menu items. We (all 4 of us) got something different and we tried each others sandwiches. I would highly suggest every to check this place out. Some of the sandwich ideas are different, but they were good. Very clean, very nice, and super fast.

So after receiving a message from Noel from the Old Pumpernickel Deli about how they are going through a change of ownership, new updated menu and improved ingredients, I decided to give them another try. My biggest complaint from my previous experience was the quality of meats. We ordered the same sandwich from last time, the Californian. The pepper turkey was waaayyy better than the slimy turkey from last time. Also tried the spicy pastrami which was also tasty. Great mix of spicy peppers and pastrami and the bread was great. I'm happy that the new owners have made the improvements and plan on going back. Support family run businesses!

Came here on a Saturday and sat on the patio with friends. Gourmet Veggie sandwich combo w/ voodoo chips was delicious. The total price was around $8, and the sandwich was big enough that I only ate half. Friends had the spicy pastrami and a wrap w/ turkey and other stuff that I don't remember. Everything was delicious, the customer service was friendly. If I am ever in the area, I'll definitely be back.

Please do not mis understand me! I love the Pump. Everything is great ,,,,,,,except the salads. Do not judge this place by the salads if you are a first time customer. Avoid the salads. They are very disappointing. Stick with the sandwiches that are outstanding. I recently ordered a grilled chicken Asian salad thinking everything I have tried here has been great so the salads should be great also....WRONG. Grilled Asian salad: Chopped Ice Berg lettuce, sliced purple onion, burnt won ton chips, and grilled chicken. Thats it for $6.00. Come on Pump you can do better! We believe in you!

I was really excited to find a small sandwich place near work in Garden Grove that isn't your typical Togo's, or Quizno's. While I enjoyed that the food was in it's freshest form- I don't think that they washed their vegetables really well considering everyone that I dined with got sick later in the afternoon. Other than that- the service is great. It doesen't seem as though the kitchen is the cleanest- but in a place so small one would expect this much.

Mom and Pop Deli As another Yelper had suggested: Support your Mom and Pop shops! This place, you will definitely enjoy... if you can find it. Tucked away in a small corner, this Deli is unique and special. I liked the fact that they had weekly specials each day; it really made my life easier as far as which sandwich to choose. I ordered Tuna =). This place is great for breakfast and lunch and everything is cooked to order- very fresh ingredients. You can enjoy the sandwiches on a nice sunny day, take it to go for a picnic, or grab it to-go and sneak it into a matinee movie... MMMmmm... Enjoy!

Ok this is a location my co-worker and I have been binging on in the past month or so. We've literally ordered from here no less than 10 times. Truth be told I've never even set foot in this place. He discovered it, convinced me to order it one day and from then on my life has never quite been the same. Since we're being honest here in the 10+ times I've ordered a sandwich from here I've only had one sandwich. The AWESOME BULGOGI SANDWICH! Ok now I consider myself pretty picky when it comes to KBBQ meats and the flavor. The bulgogi they use in the sandwich is good but I'm not sure you would be super excited if they handed it to you by itself on a iron skillet like at many other local KBBQ joints or even at a Tofu joint. Something about the way they lay the bulgogi on their toasted bread with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and whatever other goodness they have secretly snuck in there is nothing short of amazing. When we first started ordering here we would request the meat lovers portion which was basically 30% more meat. Now we specify that we want the meat lovers portion and then double meat. It's imperative that they're giving us the 30% extra meat and doubling that portion! I'm Asian but I'm no math whiz. You tell me, is that better than saying the double meat then 30% meat lovers on top? Anyhow it doesn't matter. With the double meat portion it kicks ass. It's the amount of meat that should be in there and the appropriate amount of meat for me. I haven't tried any of the other sandwiches in fear I will strangle myself for ordering something that doesn't hold a torch to the Awesome Bulgogi Sandwich. I'm sure the other sandwiches are fantastic but it would ruin my damn afternoon if I ate something there that was even a fairy's eyelash(this is a weird analogy I know) less satisfying than the ABS. P.S. Old Pump can you guys open in the evenings so I can get a sandwich for dinner? P.P.S. It's dimly lit in my room and I'm listening to Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight and I wish there was an Awesome Bulgogi Sandwich here. Unfortunately there isn't the smell of the sandwich in the air tonight.

I've tried the Pesto Chicken Sandwich and the Sundried Tomato Pesto Sandwich and they are both amazing. I don't know what it is about their mustard - they must make it themselves because it is heavenly! I also love their Squaw Bread. Nice dark greens and fresh tomatoes on the sandwich. Finally, a tasty gourmet sandwich in this area!

What a weird place! Pumpernickel is a deli hidden away in an inconspicuous business complex right before the 405. Wouldn't have known about it if my professor hadn't arranged to meet with me here. Your standard deli sandwich shop with a Korean twist: they serve a bulgogi sandwich that I regret not trying. They bake their own bread here and the rest of the ingredients are pretty fresh. Korean babe at the counter is nice and brings out the sandwiches to you. Only detraction I have is that they're a bit heavy with the mayo but I'll know ahead of time for my bulgogi sandwich.

The sandwiches here are the BEST!!! Even my brother, who is a cop and jaded from eating out every single day, fell in love with his Jalapeno Burger (with extra, extra Jalapenos!) and vowed to come back with his buddies. I ordered the Italian sub, and my mom had the American Hero. First of all, the bread is exquisite! I am so tired of the tasteless preservative-laden breads you get from Subway and other chain restaurants. Anyone who knows anything about a great sandwich knows that you have to start with good bread. And this place had the softest, chewiest, tastiest bread! The owner explained that they pick up the bread daily from a local french bakery. No wonder! The sandwich meats were thickly sliced and full of flavor, and there was a great zing to the whole sandwich, which I found out later was the owner's special balsamic and olive oil dressing that she whips up each morning. Yum! I will definitely come back here as often as I can. I hear the Grilled Portebello and Tuna are excellent. Next office training, I will definitely get our lunch catered from here!

I live down the street from Old Pump and tried it about 15 years ago and it was not good so I never went back. I was reading yelp reviews of places close to my home and came across Old Pump reviews that were saying how good it was so I decided to give it a try again. My first visit I ordered the roast beef sub,it was really good. I went back the next day with my daughter and the nice lady behind the counter recommended the bulgogi sandwich so I tried it. WOW, Heaven on a bun,I'm hooked. My daughter ordered the chicken wrap and was equally impressed.Old Pump is now a regular stop for me.

Best turkey around. And the squaw bread is amazing. Cant do wrong. Nicest people run the place too with decent prices. I have lived across the street for little over a year and have never been here. Now i go twice a week. Keep it up.

Absolutely one of the best sandwich shops! I noticed this deli every time I pass by on Valley View st. My work is in Cypress so I get off 405 and always knew there is a sandwich shop but never stopped by. On Friday, I had to go home early to pick up my kids and I was running late. So I decided to pick up a late lunch there for me and my kids. I went there around 2pm. There were some people waiting or eating outside at the patio. I kinda liked the patio. The service was fast to satisfy my impatience. The guy who took my order was very kind and nice...The shop is pretty small but cozy enough full of delicous smell~ ^^ It would've been better if there are more inside seatings. Anyway, I grabbed my sandwich and as soon as I got on a freeway I took a first bite. Wow! The first impressive thing was the bread, bread, bread! It was absolutely one of the best in my life and all "fresh" ingredients. I ordered veggie panini for me and california delux and chicken pesto for my kids. It wasn't just a sandwich, it was a masterpiece. I closed my eyes and enjoyed it so much..(I'm a picky eater~) It was more than homemade. Obviously my kids were so impressed, too. I'm so glad I found a deli exactly the way I want. I can't wait to have lunch there today. I will recommend my boss have catering there someday. The price is good, too..... I positively give 5 star to this gem I found.

I've been working down the street for a year and a half and have always seen this place on yelp only to have just tried it a couple weeks ago ! If you love pesto, try their chicken pesto sandwich !! It's DELICIOUS. The pesto spread is amazing and the chicken is moist . I get mine without onions because I find it too strong but that's just me. The service is quick and friendly . I was watching one of the front staff members take multiple phone calls and orders in person while making my smoothie all at the same time in a matter of minutes. Super impressive lol! Anyway, definitely a great place to stop by during lunch !

I have bookmarked this place and been putting off coming here and today was the day I had the chance to try them. I have to say I wasn't really impressed with them at all. Kind of got that feeling when I was the only one there on a Saturday afternoon. What I like about this place is it's really close to the 22 whether your coming or going. Plenty of parking in the plaza and in front of the shop. Now I got that out of the way time to talk about why they're only getting two stars. I got the Awesome Bulgogi sandwich combo with fries and drink for about $9 (you get $1 off combos when you check in). My initial impression was it looked pretty big but upon closer inspection the sandwich was probably 80% bread(filler) and 20% meat, veggies, and lettuce. The sandwich was flavorless, the only thing I can taste from the sandwich was the onions and mushrooms. Everything else was an after thought. I had bulgogi before and I have to say this is low tier bulgogi. You can see from the pic there wasn't much to try and comparing it to other pics I don't know whats the deal. But it seems they changed owners so that can explain why the portion sizes were so little. The fries here were crispy but soggy. You can get fries from other fast food places and wait longer to eat them and would still taste better than the fries here. Overall, this place isn't that great and you can drive a bit further to get better food and value. With these prices you might as well go to Quiznos or Subway and get more bang for your buck. I'm always willing to give places a second try but price, portions, and taste of the food wouldn't bring me back here any time in the foreseeable future.

This place would get five stars if they focused on what they are good at: sandwiches. But the extra stuff always ruins places like this. I got a sandwich, fries, and a cup of soup. The sandwich was amazing. The bread was crispy and not too bread-y. It didn't overwhelm the other ingredients. Chicken was moist. Over all a great sandwich. I will definitely come back. The fries were obviously cheap, frozen from a bag and nothing special. Soggy. Not worth it. Just taking up belly space that could be full of delicious sandwich instead. Soup was okay. Not bad, but again, nothing special. Also, only one refill allowed on their tiny soda cups that they fill to the brook with ice for you. A) I don't want that much ice, even with unlimited refills. B) a refill costs maybe a couple cents. Unnecessarily cheap on the owner's part. Much more pros than cons. Definitely coming back!

Laughing Cow gets the last laugh on their "provolone." How does provolone fall apart like pasteurized cheese? Cheap and unfulfilling. This food is perfectly suited for its area: scrubby and dilapidated. Only a block away and there's the worst Italian you'll ever have.

Best sandwich shop in OC! Every time I come here I get the same thing, and its consistently amazing! The chicken pesto sandwich hands down will be the best $6.45 you will spend on a sandwich!

  • Josh K.

Went here for a quick breakfast because there was a sign outside saying that they have breakfast. Only three things on the breakfast menu: breakfast burrito breakfast sandwich and something else that I forget. I order the breakfast sandwich to go and when I open my box its nothing like the menu describes. It's toast with Ore Ida tater tots, Jimmy Dean sausage patty, American cheese, and the fried egg. That's it. Their lunch sandwiches look so good but why can't you extend that to your breakfast sandwich? And for goodness sake if you have breakfast please have coffee! How hard is it to have a single pot of drip coffee?

Really small mom & pop shop with more room in the front terrace for sitting. Balsamic Portobello - a DELIcious sandwich even with no meat. The balsamic vinegar dripping down the giant mushroom enhances that taste with every bite. Ultimate Tower Burger - alright BBQ stuff. Not as highly built as it sounds. Came on a cut sub type bread. Guess what you want to come here for are the sandwiches. The burgers are just the type that can be found anywhere. $1 off a combo when checking in on Yelp.

The first time I came here was a few days ago to have lunch with my friend - we both ordered the Italian Sub - OMG, so good!!! The French Roll is toasted and really "makes" the sandwich. We were speaking with the man behind the counter about their taco, rice, and bean plate (they have a big variety of food to choose from, really good prices too!). He offered us a sample of the Spanish rice, which was pretty good - and very nice of him. Yesterday, my fiancé and I stopped by to get the Cheeseburger combo and the Bacon and Avocado Hamburger combo. We weren't big fans of the burgers, maybe personal tastes, but we will be coming back here regularly for the sandwiches for sure! We will probably try the tacos and burritos as well!

Found this place a few days ago and I'm in love! So far i'Ve tried the Spicy Pastrami, Chicken Pesto, Bulgogi, & Sun-dried Tomatoes Chicken sandwich. All of them were satisfying but my favorite is the Chicken Pesto...best chicken pesto sandwich I've ever had. My 2nd favorite would be the bulgogi. They give a lot of the meat and spread that you can actually taste unlike other sandwich places. The bread is also perfect, crunchy outside and soft in the inside. Portion is really filling and great to share. I highly recommend this place if you're craving a yummy sandwich or want to grab a quick lunch :)

Wow - you know the feeling when you find a restaurant with great ratings on Yelp, and then the experience lives up to your expectations? It's exactly how I'm feeling right now after visiting Old pumpernickel Deli. The deli is tucked off the 405 in a strip mall with ample parking. Upon walking in, it became apparent we made the right decision. The store has that cozy mom and pops feel. Inside - an ordering counter, beverage machine and fridge on the left, and a few tables on the right. Having conducted prior research, we immediately ordered the Taste of Asia and Awesome Bulgogi sandwiches. Let me begin by saying the French Roll for both sandwiches was Amazing! Warm. Crunchy. What more can you ask for? Taste of Asia - Chicken complimented with pickled veggies (carrots and cucumbers) and a delicious sesame mayo. Enjoyed the contrasting flavors of the chicken and mayo versus the pickled veggies. Also had great texture. Awesome Bulgogi - Reminiscent of a Philly Cheese Steak! Perhaps slightly less flavorful than the Taste of Asia, but equally satisfying (in a different way). This sandwich's temperature was warmer versus the colder banh mi style of the Taste of Asia: combining freshly grilled beef, melted cheese, and delicious mayo on that oh-so-delicious french roll. Did I mention the friendly service? :) Overall, a fantastic experience. I'm excited to have finally tried out this place and eager to return!

The reasons I choose this restaurant: *The restaurant menu has a salad that sounds great: Portobello with avocado. *The restaurant is nearby home. *People like this place, on yelp. Then, I had second thoughts when I read that some reviewers thought the salads are not very good. I decided to go anyway, and I'm happy I did. The salad had big chunks of Portobello mushroom and half an avocado. I would have liked more salt and the dressing could have used more oil. I'm sure they would have gladly accommodated me, but I was too lazy to walk back to the counter. It was awkward to wait for my food because the interior of this shop is tiny and I visited during the lunch rush. There is an outdoor seating area, but on the day I visited there were tree trimmers too close to this seating making too much noise for me. There are also a few seats in the walkway of the office building where the restaurant is located. The salad ingredients were all great. That is 90% of what makes a good salad, so this salad gets an A and this restaurant can join my lunch time rotation and I'll be happy to try other items.

I was driving from LA to SD and starving. I did a quick Yelp search and found this place. First off, adorable name. Second, its next to an adorably named tea shop (The Sussex Spot). Third, delicious. A wonderful spread of options from sandwiches to tacos and made fast and tasty. Next road trip, definitely popping in.

This little mom & pop sandwich shop really kicks arse. I'm not going to make comparisons to Deli-Licious since they're in a league of their own but compared to other hole in the wall sandwich shops this place is awesome and has some unique sandwiches that set them apart. I've had three sandwiches so far and all three have been delicious. Recently this place changed owners but the quality seems to be the same since the only thing I noticed different is the people manning the register. Yesterday I had the "Taste of Asian" sandwich. This is Teriyaki chicken breast, sweet pickled carrots, sweet pickled daikon radish, homemade onion jam, sesame mayo, cucumbers and cilantro on a fresh baked French roll. It's basically a Banh Mi. Chicken was tender and full of flavor, but my only complain is they cut it into chunks which causes them to fall out of the sandwich if not held carefully. Not sure why they decided to do this, I assume because the chicken cooks faster and they use it for the teriyaki rice plate too. Still, that's a minor complaint. Just death grip the sandwich and all the pieces will stay in place. Was as good as any Banh Mi I've had a Vietnamese sandwich shop. I highly recommend. Previous visits: "Awesome Bulgogi" sandwich. This is thinly sliced sirloin beef which has been marinated in Korean BBQ marinade. Traditional bulgogi uses ribeye but the sirloin worked out fine, no chewy pieces. Also has caramelized red onions, mushrooms, provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato. Truly a drool inducing fantastic sandwich that bring the flavors of Korea into a tasty sandwich. All it needs is some kimchi. "Spicy Pastrami" sandwich. This has grilled pastrami, provolone cheese, mustard, pickle chips, and choice of pepperoncini and/or jalapeno peppers. Delicious sandwich but it was really skimpy on the pastrami compared to the other two sandwiches. I probably wouldn't order again. Besides sandwiches on French Bread they also have wraps, burgers, rice plates, salads, and breakfast. They have 4 vegetarian sandwiches for you plant munchers out there. P.S. Why isn't there any pumpernickle bread served here?!

Great lunch spot. Their bread is so fresh! That is my favorite part of the sandwich. Their daily soup specials cannot be missed. I have been here a few times and never had a bad experience. Try the spicy chicken soup!

I'm not a big sandwich person - mostly because my doctor is determined to get me to stop eating gluten. So... no gluten free bread, no can do :( Thankfully, they have OTHER options here, which I really appreciate, since the people I was dining with wanted to come here for lunch. I ended up ordering a teriyaki beef, rice, and salad plate, which cost around $6.50 + some change. Not too bad, considering the portion size was decent and the salad was actually a GOOD salad with lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, and croutons. The beef was sliced extra thin (think deli sandwich thin...), which kinda made me feel like I got jipped, since there was a ton of rice and maybe only 4 thin slices of beef. Nonetheless, the dish was still quite filling and I was relatively full for another 2 hours after eating here :) Not sure if I'd come back, though! Just an FYI- Pumpernickel is located right off the 22 freeway, on the border of Valley View before it turns into Bolsa Chica. They've been doing construction on these roads for a long time, so be prepared to experience some delays! Also, if you're not a sandwich person like me and have to eat gluten free, this probably isn't the place for you, considering their menu mostly only consists of sandwiches!!! Like I said, great that they have other options, but they simply don't seem to measure up to the par of their sandwiches. Guess I can't fault them for having a specialty! 3 stars!

Fabulous! We ordered lunch for our volleyball team and parents. Irvin kindly delivered 23 delicious and fresh sandwiches and salads along with assorted chips to us at the Next Level sports Complex. Each order was prepared perfectly and with 23 separate, individualized picky orders this was deeply appreciated. The chicken pesto and Ca Supreme sandwiches received the highest compliments. We will ABSOLUTELY order again the next time we play in Garden Grove.

I love the old pumpernickel! I work in the area and go there usually once a week. Such great quality food, very friendly service, and a great patio dining area. The world would be a better place with more sandwich places like this! Their veggie sandwiches and turkey basil are my favorite, but all that I have had there have been delicious.

I was tired of hamburgers and pizza for lunch so i turned to yelp for help. They did not lead me wrong. I tried the "Awesome Bulgogi" for my first visit and it's definitely awesome. It made me want to come back and try everything else on the menu....so i did. My next visit, i tried the spicy pastrami. It's alright. Nothing too special in my opinion. My most recent visit, i tried their "Balsamic Portobello". I did not have high expectations, since there's no meat invoived but man was i surprised. It's freaking delicious! All of the sandwiches are served on their french roll (you can ask for others). The roll is quite good. It's crispy on the outside, yet soft on the inside. More importantly, it's huge and they don't skimp on the ingredients. Every bite is not just bread.

Sandwiches here are very good and flavorful. They also have this spicy chicken soup and she allowed us to sample it and it's actually spicy and very delicious. Have only tried the chicken pesto and spicy pastrami sandwiches and the chicken pesto was awesome. Will be back to try the other sandwiches.

Old pumpernickel will not let you down. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! But my favorite is the sun dried chicken tomato! Only thing I could wish is they were open 24 hours, 7 days a week :)

Delicious wraps and excellent customer service. I had them deliver wraps for a party (free delivery for over $50) and they were prompt and professional. Irvin was the guy who took the order and he was very helpful in answering all my questions. The portion size of the wraps was great for the price. I would highly recommend this cute mom and pop sandwich shop. Currently their website is down, so you will have to rely on the info on yelp for the time being.

Wow this place is a hidden gem! I work in the same center at OM Day Spa and have seen it plenty of times, but for whatever reason haven't had a chance to eat there. So today I went in, staff super friendly, food fast and fresh, my new favorite lunch spot! I had the California Delux and wow I was blown away the French Roll and Turkey were so fresh!

Not much to say other than badass sandwiches. If you want a hearty sandwich full of rich flavors served quick then this is the place to go. Price seemed a bit much at first but then you forget about that when you finish the sandwich and fully satisfied.

I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich and it was good, the meals come with fries and a drink it cost around $9. Sandwiches are quite big and all in all worth. Ill definitely try this place again!

I'm a sucker for sandwiches, and I know a good sandwich when I eat one! Came here for the first time after yelping a good place to have lunch. The reviews looked good so I decided to try it. The first photo I saw on the page was the bulgogi sandwich and that was all it took. What a perfect concoction. Can't wait to eat it again and try their other goodies! Also, pricing is great for the quality that you get.

Since moving to west Garden Grove last June, the hubby and I have been trying some of the local eatery places and I think we found the "IT" sandwich place to run to for that lunch meal. We headed over to the Old Pumpernickel Deli to give it a try. We ordered up the Spicy pastrami sandwich which I made the mistake of eating first and it was so good, I didn't think anything could top it until I tried the second half of my sandwich which was the Awesome Bulgogi Sandwich......Mmmmm, Mmmmm, Aunt Bee.....this is some gooood vitals here! The bread was freshly toasted, the meats were so deliciously seasoned and the cheese just ooooozed out from every corner............so good! And the best thing is, it is right around the corner of my house! Hello Bulgogi, I will be seeing more of you real soon! DeliLicious has some stiff competition here!!

I come here every Tuesday for lunch. They are kind, family operated, and make DELICIOUS food. I'm never disappointed when I come here! The did change ownership, but the service has not changed! They love to see their customers happy and full :) It's simple, If you want a good sandwich this is the place to go!!! I high recommend the American hero, the sun dried tomato, and the spicy pastrami! The veggie sandwiches are amazing as well :)

My mouth is on fire right now because I just ate the BEST SPICY PASTRAMI SANDWICH EVER. I love how the bread is not too hard or too soft- it's slightly crispy just the way I like it. My sandwich was packed with jalapenos and pepperoncini. I love how there is mustard spread inside and a bit of mayo. I have also tried the bulgogi sandwich which was very flavorful and amazing.

Old Pumpernickel Deli is an unassuming sandwich shop located in an industrial complex... I would probably come here daily if my business were in this complex as there is an adorable semi-shadded patio. Absolutely perfect to enjooy with coworkers for a nice sunny day outdoor lunch! I ordered a soup and 1/2 sandwich combo and it was absolutely delightful. There's also a $1 off promo code when you check in with yelp! So be sure to take advantage of that if you're planing try a soup or salad and sandwich. Per the owners recommendation I ordered the bulgogi sandwich and eagerly anticipated his creation. Once I recieved it I nom'd on it happily. The texture of the bulgogi reminds me a bit of a more robust roast beef with a mild flavor, but combined with their fresh home-made bread and crisp produce it was a tasty sandwich. The tortilla soup was a good accompaniment, but I think next time I'll going to go big and order a full size sandwich. The bread is definitely the star, so I can't wait to try other combinations like the Sundried Tomato and Chicken sandwich or the Chicken Pesto. Mmm.. Until next time...

Mr. R. and I discovered Old Pumpernickel a couple of months ago and they have never steered us wrong. I highly recommend a visit. I love their Gourmet Veggie and their Bulgogi sandwich. The french bread is unbelievable, soft on the inside, crisp on the outside. They really take time with their flavors here, it's not like you're getting a subway sandwich slapped together....no no no Old Pumpernickel takes their time. The same woman is always there when I pick up lunch, she is sweet and gets her job done so you can get to eating. They have a basket of Isabella's cookies by the register, which gets me into trouble every time. I don't think I have ever left without a bag of blueberry or white chocolate cookies. The location is very unassuming, nothing flashy and easy to miss. I hope you get a chance to try it; to go to a fast food chain over Old Pumpernickel Deli would be such a mistake.

There's not a sandwich here that I haven't found to be not delicious. If your a fan of chicken. They have a pesto chicken sandwich and Sun dried tomato chicken. They give you plenty of meat and the owner even takes the time to learn your name if you come often(: She greets my friends and I everytime! All time favorite: Korean BBQ Sanwich They changed owners just recently yet still seem to be reeling off these scrumptious sandwiches.

The Balsamic Portobello sandwich with avocado is something I cannot live without anymore. It is like crack for my tummy. I crave it, I dream about it, when I am on the streets I keep seeing it out of the corner of my eye, and I cannot stop talking about it. I keep ruminating about this scenario where I am at the Old Pumprnickel Deli and I keep giving the sandwich furtive glances, because I am kind of ashamed about the human-sandwich relationship I want to have with it, but then Katy Perry's Roar comes on the radio and I am instantly comforted by the strength the song gives me, so I then saunter over to the Balsamic Portobello sandwich with avocado and tell it in a strong, but soft voice, "hey, I'm going to eat you." The owners are also incredibly nice.

Old Pumpernickle Deli is located in a small business park north of the 22 Fwy on Valley View. A family owned sandwich shop that offers different types of sandwiches, if you are bored of the same ol chain sandwich shops. During my stop, I tried their Chicken Basil Sandwich. The strip of chicken breast are cooked in an basil pesto sauce...piled on a nice french roll which had a nice crusted top. I really enjoyed the flavor of the pesto sauce, which wasn't too greasy. Definitely would be back for another one of their sandwiches. They are open for Breakfast and Lunch, and also offer Soups, Salads, and Breakfast Burritos.

Old Pumpernickel is a strip plaza where MAWL wine used to be. It is a really tiny ship with great sandwiches [sundried tomato chicken sandwich] menutail.com/menu_item/8… When talking with the owner, she bakes her own french bread (!) and made her own sundried tomatoes. The chicken was really fresh (probably boiled) with lettuce and mayo. Their sandwich passes the sandwich integrity test which is a good bread, with ingredients inside that don't make the bread soggy. [fries] Pretty much your regular fries without batter [chicken tortilla soup] Good, but a tad salty for me. [improvements] I feel Old Pumpernickel is a really good with simple flavor compositions. I feel that they could improve by maybe adding more of a spring mix greens (from earthbound perhaps), and maybe different types of aiolis. [overall] This place is awesome. Fresh ingredients, fresh bread (my weaknesses), and a nice lady running the place).

First time here, so this review is just for the Ultimate Tower Burger. I have no idea about the rest of the menu. I'm always looking for a good burger, so here's pros and cons on this one..... Pros: Big burger with a lot of stuff (bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, fried egg, avocado, topped with french fries and BBQ sauce) for only $5.99. Cons: All of the stuff failed to come together to produce any umami's or any sort of distinctive taste. In fact, you couldn't even taste the beef. Overall kind of a mess really. I wouldn't say the burger sucked, it was OK .... two stars. Considering the price, it's a couple of dollars less than similar bbq bacon burgers you'd find elsewhere, so I'll bump it to 3 stars.

First off: Usually good service. I love the Old Pump Veggie and the Balsamic Portobello is pretty tasty. They have short hours during the day in which they are open, so it's usually the best option to call ahead for an order. Peeve, down a star: I came in today at 8:40 (10 minutes after opening) and it was pitch black inside and CLEARLY not open. If you can't open by, you know, when you say you're going to open and then some, don't list that you open then. It's not that hard.

Had the hamburger combo. Hamburger patty was over-processed meat that barely resembled or tasted like meat. French fries were bland and barely warm. The bright yellow cheese (looks artificial) dripped all over the place. Not fresh, not quality ingredients. Going to stay away.

Stopped here on a rainy day for lunch after yelping local places to eat. I am always in the mood for a good sandwich. The best thing about this deli is their home made bread..The outer layer had a good crunch to it as the center of the bread stayed soft. I was a little disappointed in the amount of meat on my Italian sandwich. I was a little bit excited to read how they dont skimp on their meat by fellow yelpers, but I was looking for the meat. They put at most 4 thin slices of meat on this baby...The sandwich was good though, it was topped with roasted red peppers, red onions and other good stuff, just wished it had more meat.

I loveeeee this place! The owners are sweethearts. Their sandwiches are AMAZING. My personal favorite is the chicken pesto but I'm on a mission to try everything on the menu.
